Winter Sun Cocktail Recipe
Good Lord it’s been a long week. The first one back after Christmas always is after two weeks of doing nothing but eating and drinking. I was ready to go back to normality, for my livers sake if nothing else, but now, I am desperate for the weekend. I haven’t had an alcoholic beverage since Sunday, so it’s time to prise open the drinks cabinet and to enjoy a bit of Winter Sun.
This aptly entitled Winter Sun is a wonderful new year cocktail for two reasons a) it’s light and refreshing after all the creamy festive drinks and b) it utilises at least two of the mountain of uneaten Clementines still residing in your post Christmas fruit bowl. The juice of these mingle wonderfully with some lemon, triple sec or orange liqueur and some Aldi Hopking white rum for a hint of summer. It’s light, infinitely drinkable and doesn’t feel desperately boozy. And surely this contains at least one of your 5 a day and we all need extra vitamin C at this time of the year.
What I wouldn’t give for a bit of actual winter sun at the moment. Sadly my lottery numbers didn’t come up over Christmas so, this divine cocktail version, will have to happily suffice.
So bright and fresh, not necessarily how I’ve been feeling this week as I’m back to getting up at 7am. And there are the two offerings from my glut of clementines. It doesn’t matter how many I eat, there are still about 40 in the bowl.
Start, as is so often the case, with your cocktail shaker and some ice.
Next in is the lemon and clementine juices. I got plenty of juice for one cocktail from my two clementines.
Now add the triple sec or orange liqueur and the white rum.
Shake the cocktail shaker until it feels chilled then pour, over some more ice, into your tumbler.
Garnish with a slice of lemon or clementine. Sip and enjoy your new favourite cocktail.
Getting back into the swing of things after Christmas is a struggle. A sip of a Winter Sun, whilst imagining you’re enjoying some winter sun, may go some way towards cheering you right up.
Have a restful weekend.

Aldi kindly sent me their Hopking White Rum to try, however, all opinions and ramblings are, as always, my own.
