Winter Aperol Spritz recipe
My lovely friend introduced me to an Aperol Spritz years ago and I’ve loved them ever since. They’re the ultimate holiday drink and even Clyde succumbed to loving a spritz with a plate of crispy courgettes in Crete. This Winter Aperol Spritz will keep the aperitivo love going well in the new year, and beyond.
This is such a seasonal way to use up the end of your summertime bottle of Aperol. You’ll only need to buy a carton of cranberry, a clementine and a sprig of rosemary to create your new favourite winter drink; that’s assuming you keep a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge at all times like myself. Mix all the aforementioned goodies in a bucket of a wine glass, gently stir, then add just a touch of fizzy water for luck.
A sip of this will make you feel super seasonal, and nicely tipsy; which will probably be my general state of being for the next 5 weeks.
Such was my excitement at finding this new way to drink my beloved Aperol, I nearly forgot to include the fizz in the photo. Don’t feel you have to use Prosecco, Cava or any other fizzy white will work here. Campari could replace the Aperol, it’s really all up to you and your love of bitter drinks.
Make a start with a large wine glass and a big handful of ice. First in is the Aperol.
Next in is the cranberry juice and the fizz of your choosing.
Give your spritz a gentle stir then add the splash of fizzy water or soda and garnish away to your hearts content.
Sip away, and repeat until January.
I know it’s early shirley, but this is a great drink to add to your Christmas cocktail list, and they’ll be plenty more where this came from.
