Espresso Banana Smoothie

Espresso Banana Smoothie Recipe

This week marks another big date in everyone’s diary – it’s National Coffee Week. I know this will be old news to most of you, but I only just discovered this gem of information via Twitter. So, as luck would have it, this special week coincides with today’s delicious new breakfast treat, my Espresso Banana Smoothie. A tenuous connection, I know, but this isn’t just thrown together you know *it really is*.

The fact it’s not sub zero of a morning now means I can start to put away the porridge for another winter and to look for less of a rib sticking breakfast. I do love a smoothie first thing, but I am often put off by a) seeds in my teeth from all the berries and b) the fact they are just too bloody cold. However, with spring and warmer starts on the horizon, this coffee based treat just might hit the spot. It contains a frozen banana, of which there are numerous in my freezer. In our house, the boys are either eating bananas or they aren’t. Either way, once they get even the smallest of brown spots on them, they won’t get eaten. Hence, at least 10 frozen bananas in my freezer at any one time. Which is great for me and my love of an Espresso Banana Smoothie with it’s hit of coffee and spoonful of oats to keep you full for a good chunk of the morning.

This is a refreshing and fulfilling start to the day, which compliments the rest of my distinctly unfulfilling morning routine where I throw the boys out of the door for school, usually after some form of breakfast related drama, walk the dog come rain or shine and then eventually leave for work. At least some things can bring you joy and satisfaction before 9am.

Not a terribly taxing looking line up for your first-thing-in-the-morning-brain to comprehend. Mine is woolly until around 11am. Use any milk you like for this, almond, full fat, skimmed, insert your preference here.

Make a start by adding a large handful of ice to your blender. Then follow in with a frozen banana, in half or chunks, and a large spoonful of oats.

For flavour and a touch of sweetness add a half teaspoon of vanilla and honey.

Nearly done now, pour in the milk and the wonderfully strong shot of espresso then it’s time to blitz in your feisty blender. I used my lovely Nutri Bullet I got for Christmas.

Pour this iced breakfast pick-you-up into a large glass and sip away. I enjoyed mine with my seedy nutty cereal bar. The recipe for which I am working on as I just can’t get it to bloody well stick together, so bear with.

This is a smoothie with balls. The coffee will get you moving and the oats and banana will keep you going. Results all round and that’s just what’s called for of a morning.

Your intro comment on fruit smoothies being too cold and too seedy…yet you add ice cubes to your drink despite frozen bananas, (literally frozen) ..therefore making your smoothie unnecessarily colder, and then you include a “seedy” granola bar with your smoothie, so seeds in your teeth (much seedier than berries) will be a strongly likelihood.
    Huh?

Good to hear you’re reading and analysing my posts in such great depth. Did you enjoy the smoothie?
