Campari and Blood Orange Recipe
My lovely Dad adored a Campari so I’m blaming him for my love of all the bitter drinks. A Negroni for me is King, but this Campari and Blood Orange is a seasonal fruity treat and, purely by chance, is perfectly hued for Valentine’s Day.
I manage to shoe horn blood orange juice into lots of cocktails during their brief season; it’s so tart, but still sweet. Paired with Campari the two are a colour and flavour match made in heaven. Bittersweet, my favourite quality in a cocktail. This is a two ingredient treat, if you don’t include making the dehydrated orange slice garnish, as I did in a moment of overacheiving. If you’ve missed the blood orange window, do buy the bottled juice, it’s such a beautiful colour and flavour, you don’t want this cocktail to pass you by.
Rest assured no one will be making me a Valentine’s cocktail, so I’ll be making a Campari with Blood Orange and keeping it all to myself.
Ooh what a lovely sight, a brand new bottle of Campari. Alongside the two blood oranges; such a beautiful pairing with the bitter aperitif.
Make a start on this brief but beautiful drink with plenty of ice in a tall-ish glass. Pour over the Campari.
Squeeze your blood oranges to yield around 150ml of juice.
Pour this over the Campari and give it a gentle stir.
Pop on a slice of fresh or dehydrated blood orange in a final flourish. Sip and love the bittersweetness of your new favourite drink.
This Friday cocktail is all about love; this is Lucy Loves after all. And I’m happy to say I do love a Campari.
