Toasted Almond Old Fashioned Recipe

A couple of weeks ago the kind people at Vintage Roots, the Organic Wine People, used one of my lovely Friday cocktails to promote their Organic Amaretto. I was happy to share my knowledge of all things booze related but, as a thank you, they kindly sent me a sample of this Biostilla Amaretto to try *tough times*. It was an absolute pleasure to drink, so I decided to use some of it to fashion today’s Friday Cocktail, the Toasted Almond Old Fashioned.

I love an Old Fashioned cocktail. Basically it’s booze and bitters, so nothing not to like here. Especially in this Toasted Almond Old Fashioned. The first thing I thought of when I sampled the Organic Amaretto was its toasted, biscuity flavour, so it’s just right for this cocktail. Warming, full flavoured and perfect to take the edge off the chill on a late autumn evening. Once I’d used a bit of my sample, I generously shared the rest with some friends as a post dinner shot. We all oohed and aaahed over its rich, almond taste, which is unusual enthusiasm from such hardened drinkers.

If you are lucky enough to buy some of the Organic Amaretto, not only is it nutty and delicious, it comes in the most beautiful pale pink floral bottle, so that’s me won over everytime.

How stylish is that line up. Very, is the answer. And once again, beautiful autumnal colours. This is such a tasty nutty drink, so comforting.

Make a start by adding a good handful of ice to a tumbler or old fashioned glass.

Add a couple of dashes of aromatic Angostura bitters for a touch of colour and spice.

Pour in the generous shot of Bourbon.

And then the wonderful Organic Amaretto, so rich and biscuitty.

Give the glass a bit of a swill to mix the flavours. Garnish with a cocktail cherry.

This Friday, sit back, with a blanket over your knees *or that’s just me as our boiler has broken* and warm your heart and soul with this Toasted Almond Old Fashioned.  You’ve earned it. And if you haven’t earned it, sod it, have one anyway as it’s friday and it’s half term next week, hooray.

Toasted Almond Old Fashioned Recipe

You will need a a good sized tumbler

40ml Bourbon

25ml Biostilla Amaretto Deluxe Organic

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Ice and a cherry garnish

Take a good sized tumbler and add a handful of ice. Add the two dashes of bitters then pour in the bourbon and organic Amaretto. Stir/swill then garnish with a cherry. Sip then sip some more.
